Naturopathic medicine is system of primary healthcare that focuses on prevention of disease. Naturopathic doctors use a combination of current diagnostic evaluation and evidence based natural therapies to diagnose and treat many aspects of family health, in all patients from children to the elderly. With a focus on the whole person, and totality of symptoms, Naturopathic Medicine aims to find and treat the cause of disease and optimize health instead of focusing on individual symptoms. Naturopathic Doctors are Primary Care Providers in Ontario, and are capable of monitoring the health of patients, until such a time that referral becomes necessary.
A presumption exists where Naturopathic Doctors practice in contrast to medications and treatments provided by Medical Doctors. This is not the case. The medical interventions provided by your Medical Doctor are necessary until such a time that your health parameters change to the point where a specific medication or treatment is no longer medically warranted.
The Principles of Naturopathic Medicine are the foundation for naturopathic practice. Further, naturopathic doctors are compelled to act morally, ethically, and professionally in accordance with the Naturopathic Physicians Oath:
